Why You Should Get On Your Child’s Eye Level

One of my favorite tips to share with families is to get on their child’s level.

There are so many benefits to getting to your child’s eye level.

It lets your little one know that:

  • You’re invested in the interaction.

  • You’re interested in what they have to say.

  • Their message matters and you are ready to listen.

Getting face-to-face also helps your child to see your mouth and facial expressions while you speak. This helps them imitate your mouth and face movements, as well as sounds and words.

Face-to-face with your littles will look different from one caregiver to another.

Depending on your comfort level and the routine, you can:

  • Bring your child up to your level

  • Sit on a chair, a couch, or the floor

  • Or take advantage of face-to-face time when your toddler is in a high-chair, car seat, or stroller.
